Wenchi Municipality Records Eight Fire Outbreaks in January

Wenchi: The Divisional Officer Grade Two (DOII) Eric Boateng, the Wenchi Municipal Commander of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), announced that the municipality has recorded eight fire outbreaks since the beginning of 2025.

According to Ghana News Agency, the outbreaks included three domestic fires, two vehicular fires, and three bushfires. DOII Boateng, in his interview, emphasized the need for increased caution among farmers, palm wine tappers, and hunters regarding the handling of open flames. He urged residents to ensure all electrical appliances and gadgets are turned off before leaving home for work.

DOII Boateng identified activities such as beekeeping, charcoal burning, group hunting, palm wine tapping, cigarette smoking, and cattle grazing as significant contributors to bushfires in the municipality. He advised farmers to construct fire belts around their farms to mitigate these risks.

In a separate interview, Mr. Yahaa Baro, the Wenchi Zonal Coordinator of the National Disaster Management Organisation, also urged the public to avoid storing flammable materials in homes, shops, and houses. He highlighted the ease with which these materials can ignite and recommended that shop owners and market women install fire extinguishers in their workplaces as a preventative measure.
