Yendi: Mr Kenneth Gilbert Adjei, Minister for Works, Housing and Water Resources, has assured Ya-Na Abukari II, the Overlord of Dagbon, of the government’s commitment to resolving the persistent water crisis impacting the Northern Region, particularly in Tamale and Yendi. During a courtesy call at the Gbewaa Palace in Yendi, Mr Adjei reaffirmed President John Dramani Mahama’s promise to address the issue before the conclusion of his term.
According to Ghana News Agency, the Minister mentioned that strategic deliberations are currently underway to find a permanent solution to the crisis, aiming to enhance socio-economic development in the affected areas. Technical teams from the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) are actively working on replacing outdated and malfunctioning equipment to provide temporary relief to residents while the government focuses on a long-term resolution.
Accompanying Mr Adjei was Mr Adam Mutawakil, Acting Managing Director of GWCL, along with other high-ranking officials from the Ministry. The delegation also paid visits to other traditional leaders, including the Paramount Chief of the Gulkpegu Traditional Area, the Chief of Tamale, and the Chief of Lamashiegu. This visit is part of the government’s broader initiative to engage with traditional authorities and local communities to reaffirm its commitment to addressing the region’s water challenges.
In response, Ya-Na Abukari II, whose speech was delivered by Naa Dr Jacob Mahama, Chief of Zangbalun, praised the Minister for the visit. He emphasized the importance of the President’s promise to resolve the water issue, highlighting it as a priority. The Ya-Na expressed his commitment to collaborating with the government and other agencies to ensure the development of his communities. He also urged the government to remain dedicated to finding a lasting solution to the water crisis, which is crucial for the socio-economic advancement of the region.
