Sunyani: Alhaji Baba Alhassan Watara, the Chief of the Sunyani Wangara Community, has issued a stern warning to Muslim youth against engaging in LGBTQ+ practices, labeling them as abominable and contrary to Islamic teachings. He emphasized that those involved in such practices risk facing judgment and Allah's wrath unless they repent and change their ways.
According to Ghana News Agency, Alhaji Watara made these remarks during a durbar marking the conclusion of the Kurubi Festival, a significant event for the Chiefs and people of the Wangaras in Sunyani. The festival, which unites the Wangara community, also serves as a traditional occasion for men to select their wives, in accordance with their cultural practices.
Nana Yusif Fanyinama III, the National Wangara Chief and Acting President of the National Council of Zongo Chiefs, provided insights into the festival's significance. He explained that the Kurubi Festival integrates culture and traditions to foster the development of Zongo communities. Celebrated after the Ramadan fast, the festival underscores the community's dedication to remaining holy, obedient, and pure before Allah. Nana Fanyinama also highlighted the festival's non-partisan nature.
