Ashaiman: Mr. Mawuli Agbenu, the Greater Accra Regional Director of the National Communication for Civic Education (NCCE), has emphasized the sanctity of voting, urging citizens to preserve its integrity.According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Agbenu highlighted the importance of exercising the right to vote without succumbing to the temptations of monetary or material inducements from political candidates. He remarked, "Voting is a sacred exercise, and only eligible voters have the right to do that; therefore, let's vote without asking for money," underscoring the need for voters to resist vote buying, a practice becoming increasingly normalized in Ghanaian politics.Speaking at the 'Parliamentary Candidates' Dialogue' organized by the NCCE in Ashaiman, Mr. Agbenu expressed his concern over the electorate's growing tendency to demand money from politicians in exchange for votes. He also addressed broader election-related issues, urging the public to verify information before sharing it to prevent the spread o f misinformation.Mr. Agbenu further cautioned religious institutions against prophesying the results of the 2024 general elections. He explained that such predictions could lead to disillusionment among supporters if their preferred candidates lose, potentially inciting violence. He also implored the youth not to allow themselves to be manipulated into violent activities by politicians, reminding them of their identity as Ghanaians first, before any political affiliation. He poignantly asked, "What are you going to say if your party wins and you are celebrating, and you are at the hospital or even dead because of the violence you engaged in?" emphasizing the personal risks involved in politically motivated violence.
