Donkorkrom: Voters in the Kwahu Afram North District in the Eastern Region have been cautioned against being influenced by money-splashing politicians as the December 7th general elections approach. They have been advised to avoid all forms of trouble and violence as Ghanaians prepare to go to the polls next Saturday to elect a president and 275 lawmakers for the ninth Parliament of the Fourth Republic.According to Ghana News Agency, the call came as the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) in the Kwahu Afram North District initiated its Inter-Faith based engagements at Donkorkrom. Mr. James Agrona, the District Director of the Commission, addressed the congregation of the Church of Pentecost at Donkorkrom, advising the electorate to exercise their franchise devoid of monetary influence and to focus instead on issues of development. He emphasized that the country's constitution frowns on vote buying to influence election outcomes and reiterated that the incompetence of political office holders of ten leads them to resort to such tactics. Mr. Agrona also took the opportunity to caution against misinformation and disinformation, stating that if not addressed, these issues have the potential to ignite violence. He warned that the District Elections Security Task Force would not compromise on bringing to book those who post fake and unconfirmed results on social media and Community Information Centers. In an interview with the Ghana News Agency at Donkorkrom, Mr. Agrona mentioned that the Commission would also visit mosques and traditional authorities to promote the virtue of tolerance, which Ghanaians are known to exhibit, especially as the elections approach. He highlighted that the Afram Plains have historically welcomed people from various backgrounds, resulting in peaceful coexistence in the area. He cautioned the youth not to allow themselves to be used by political parties to engage in electoral violence and urged people to use proper channels to address grievances instead of resorting to violenc e.The Inter-faith engagement is a flagship programme of the NCCE that aims to reach out to religious bodies with messages of peace, tolerance, and civic responsibilities. This year's focus is on religious tolerance, money in politics, vote buying, and misinformation and disinformation, especially as the election draws near.
