Accra: The Volta Regional Co-ordinating Council (VRCC) and the people of the Volta Region have expressed their sympathy following the tragic helicopter crash that claimed the lives of eight individuals. Volta Regional Minister James Gunu, on behalf of the VRCC, extended condolences to President John Dramani Mahama, the bereaved families, the Ghana Armed Forces, and the entire nation.
According to Ghana News Agency, the incident has been described as a national tragedy and a personal loss to President Mahama, who shares in the grief of the families, the Armed Forces, and the country at large. In a message issued on Friday, August 8, 2025, and signed by the Minister, Mr. Gunu acknowledged the courage, dedication, and selflessness with which these departed patriots served the nation under the President's leadership.
Mr. Gunu shared his personal experience of working closely with some of the victims, highlighting their professionalism, patriotism, and unwavering commitment to duty. He expressed the profound pain of their absence and emphasized the solidarity of the VRCC with the President, the Ghana Armed Forces, and the grieving families.
He extended sympathy to all state and private institutions affected by the incident. As part of efforts to honor the memory of the fallen, Mr. Gunu announced that the VRCC will hold a night vigil on Sunday, August 10, 2025, at Nfodjoh Park, inviting the public to join in prayer and tribute.
The tragic crash occurred on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, when a military helicopter carrying two ministers of state, others, and three crew members from the military, went down in Sikaman Forest near Adansi Akrofuom while en route to a programme in Obuasi. Mr. Gunu concluded by praying for divine comfort for the bereaved families and eternal rest for the departed souls, emphasizing national unity and shared values in this difficult time.
