Adaklu waya: Mr. Jerry Yao Ameko, the Adaklu District Chief Executive and Dean of Volta Region Municipal and District Chief Executives, expressed condolences on behalf of his colleagues to the President, government, National Democratic Congress (NDC), and bereaved families following the tragic helicopter crash that claimed the lives of eight individuals.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Ameko extended heartfelt condolences to President John Dramani Mahama, the government, the NDC, the Ghana Armed Forces, and the bereaved families. The victims were aboard a Ghana Armed Forces helicopter en route to a national program in Obuasi when the incident occurred. Among the deceased were prominent figures including Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Minister for Defence, and Alhaji Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Minister for Environment.
The tragic event also claimed the lives of Alhaji Minuri Mohammed, Acting National Security Coordinator; Dr. Samuel Sarpong, National Vice Chairman of the NDC; Mr. Samuel Aboagye, a former NDC Parliamentary candidate for Obuasi East; Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Amala; Flying Officer Manaem Twum Ampadu; and Sergeant Ernest Addo. Mr. Ameko described the incident as a significant loss to the country, emphasizing the dedication and patriotism of the deceased.
Mr. Ameko urged the nation to honor the memory of these individuals by celebrating their courage, patriotism, and sacrifice. He called for unity and resilience, reflecting on the ideals that the deceased stood for. In his message, Mr. Ameko prayed for eternal rest for the souls of the deceased and comfort for their families.
In response to the tragedy, President Mahama announced a three-day national mourning period starting Thursday, with directives for all flags to be flown at half-mast.
