Accra: Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang on Friday paid tribute to the eight gallant heroes who lost their lives in the August 6, 2025, helicopter tragedy. At a State funeral for the eight victims held at the Blackstar Square in Accra, the Vice President emphasized that Ghanaians should not have been listening to her tribute but should have been engaged in their usual activities, contributing to the national agenda.
According to Ghana News Agency, the Vice President remarked on the determination and focus of the eight heroes, urging others to seize opportunities to serve their country. Vice President Opoku-Agyemang shared her recent meeting with the late Dr. Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, Minister of Defence, highlighting their commitment to their assignments.
She expressed gratitude for the selflessness and commitment to duty exhibited by the fallen heroes, wishing them a peaceful rest. The Vice President also shared lines from a favorite poet, emphasizing that the departed remain with them in spirit, guiding the nation through legacies of loyalty and hard work.
The crash claimed the lives of Dr. Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, Alhaji Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, Alhaji Muniru Mohammed Limuna, Mr. Samuel Sarpong, Mr. Samuel Aboagye, Squadron Leader Peter Anala, Flying Officer Twum Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah. Alhaji Muhammed and Alhaji Limuna were laid to rest earlier, while the remaining six were interred at the new military cemetery in Tse Addo, Accra, following the State funeral.
