Participants paraded through Wa's main streets accompanied by brass band music, conveying messages of peace with placards displaying slogans such as 'Love is our power,' 'Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere,' and 'We are stronger together.'This initiative is part of the joint UNFPA/UNDP Peace Building Fund (PBF) project, coordinated by the RCC with contributions from the Upper West Regional Department of Gender and PronNet North. The peace walk in Wa concluded the regional campaign following similar events in the Sissala West and Wa West Districts where the PBF project is active.Madam Rita Nyorka, the UNFPA Focal Person at the RCC, highlighted the critical need for Ghanaians to prioritize peace by allowing institutional processes to function during the elections. She also emphasized raising a wareness about gender-based violence as a potential conflict source and urged the inclusion of youth and women in decision-making processes.Madam Charity Batuure, Upper West Regional Director of the Department of Gender, stressed the collective responsibility of all Ghanaians, both security personnel and civilians, in safeguarding the country's peace during the electoral period. She reiterated the goal of maintaining a united and peaceful Ghana before, during, and after the elections.Mr. Victor Nuworkpor, Upper West Regional Director of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), warned of the threat posed by violent extremism and called for unified efforts to combat it. He encouraged civilians to adhere to the mantra: 'See something, say something,' to assist security agencies in safeguarding the nation.The peace walk saw participation from representatives of the Upper West Regional Peace Council, National Youth Authority, and ProNet North, among others.
