Upper West GJA Advocates for Media and Assemblies Collaboration to Boost Investments

Accra: The Upper West Regional branch of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has proposed a robust collaboration between the media and the Municipal and District Assemblies (MDAs) to enhance the visibility of investment opportunities in the region.

According to Ghana News Agency, the association highlighted that the region possesses numerous investment potentials and development opportunities that remain untapped, partly due to insufficient media coverage. Mr. Prosper Kwame Kuorsoh, the Upper West Regional Chairman of the GJA, emphasized this point during a visit to the Upper West Regional Minister, Mr. Charles Lwanga Puozuing, in Wa. The GJA team included Mr. Naziru Alhassan, Secretary; Mr. Ivan Awudu Domasaa, Treasurer; Mr. Suala Abdul-Wahab, immediate past Chairman; Mr. Seidu Bomanjo, immediate past Vice-Chairman; Mr. Emmanuel Mensah Abludo, and Mr. Christopher Asiedu.

The purpose of the visit was to introduce the new regional GJA executives to the minister, congratulate him on his appointment, and seek support from the Regional Coordinating Council. Mr. Kuorsoh suggested that MDAs engage with the media to highlight investment and development opportunities in their areas, enabling the media to promote these opportunities to potential investors.

The GJA also requested support for rehabilitating its office space in Wa and for its upcoming awards ceremony recognizing dedicated media professionals in the region. Additionally, they sought a dedicated bus for media use, particularly during visits by high-profile individuals, to facilitate comprehensive coverage outside the regional capital.

Mr. Charles Lwanga Puozuing, the Upper West Regional Minister, expressed his appreciation for the visit and assured the association of his support. He welcomed the proposed collaboration and emphasized the importance of regular media engagement to promote regional development. He urged the media to focus on development-oriented reporting, noting that while negative news may attract attention, positive news fosters community growth.

Mr. Puozuing also identified issues such as poor road networks and limited infrastructure as areas where media coverage should be directed.
