Unity and Positive Engagement Emphasized for NPP Presidential Primaries

Accra: Mr. Frank Adjei-Worlanyo, the Akan New Patriotic Party (NPP) Communications Officer in the Oti Region, has emphasized the need for decorum, unity, and positive engagement before, during, and after the party's registration exercise.

According to Ghana News Agency, during an interaction on the sidelines of the primaries process, Mr. Adjei-Worlanyo highlighted that between August 26 and 28, 2025, five distinguished members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) completed the process of submitting their nomination forms to contest in the party's presidential primaries scheduled for January 31, 2026. The candidates include Mr. Kwabena Adjei Agyepong, a former General Secretary of the Party; Mr. Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, the former Assin Central Member of Parliament (MP); Dr. Bryan Acheampong, Abetifi MP and former Minister for Agriculture; Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the former Vice President and 2024 NPP presidential candidate; and Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, the former Minister of Education and MP for Bosomtwi.

Mr. Adjei-Worlanyo praised the impressive line-up of aspirants as a testament to the depth of talent and leadership within the NPP. However, he emphasized that the real test lies not in who will emerge as the flagbearer, but in whether the party can showcase maturity, unity, and discipline throughout the process. He urged party communicators, campaign teams, and supporters to refrain from insults, personal attacks, and divisive rhetoric, and instead focus on policies, vision, and leadership qualities.

He warned that anything less would undermine the dignity of the aspirants and damage the NPP's reputation as a party rooted in democratic tradition. Mr. Adjei-Worlanyo also reflected on how internal divisions and infighting had weakened the party's fortunes in the 2008 and 2024 general elections, stressing that these mistakes must not be repeated if the NPP hopes to secure victory in 2028.

Reminding stakeholders that delegates would ultimately decide the outcome of the primaries, he called for an atmosphere where ideas thrive, healthy debates flourish, and solidarity is strengthened. Mr. Adjei-Worlanyo further urged the grassroots, foot soldiers, and communicators to channel their passion towards building unity, emphasizing that the NPP is bigger than any individual and that personal ambitions must give way to the higher mission of building a stronger, united party ready to serve Ghana.

He concluded by stating that the party's vision and ideals must remain paramount, urging that the 2026 primaries should be treated as a democratic exercise among allies with a common goal, rather than a battleground for adversaries. He cautioned that disunity would only benefit political opponents, while unity would earn the trust of Ghanaians in 2028.
