Unemployed Man Sentenced to Two Years for Electrical Cable Theft

Accra: An Accra Circuit Court has sentenced Ebenezer Tetteh, an unemployed man, to two years imprisonment for stealing quantities of electrical cables in the La area of Accra. Tetteh, whose plea of guilty was confirmed by his own explanation, was convicted by the court, presided over by Mrs. Sedinam Awo Kwadam.

According to Ghana News Agency, the value and ownership of the stolen cables were not provided to the court. The court ruled that the cables remain in police custody until someone can prove ownership. Chief Inspector Daniel Ofori Appiah led the prosecution, revealing that the complainant and witnesses were police personnel from the Cantonment Division. Tetteh resided in Apapa, a suburb of La in Accra.

The incident occurred on February 20, 2025, around 0100 hours, when a police patrol team stopped a taxicab near the La Palm Royal Beach Hotel. Upon conducting routine checks, they discovered quantities of electrical cables in the vehicle. Tetteh, who was a passenger in the cab, claimed ownership of the cables.

However, the police found his explanation unconvincing and suspected foul play. Consequently, Tetteh was taken to the La Police Station, along with the cables. During the investigation, Tetteh admitted to stealing the cables but had not yet disclosed the location of the theft. Efforts by the police to identify the rightful owner of the cables are ongoing.
