Kwamekrom: Wisdom Amewuame, an unemployed individual, has been sentenced to six years of hard labor for stealing a motorbike belonging to a farmer in Kwamekrom, located in the Oti Region. Amewuame pleaded guilty to charges of unlawful entry and theft, seeking leniency when he appeared before the Jasikan Circuit Court.

According to Ghana News Agency, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Seth-Vincent Kpodo urged the court, presided over by Mr. Lambert Keriga, to consider the convict's recent release from prison for a similar offense, arguing against leniency. Presenting the case facts, ASP Kpodo highlighted that the complainant is a farmer while the convict is unemployed, both residing in separate suburbs of Kwamekrom.

On December 31, 2024, the complainant and his family attended a church service to welcome the New Year. Upon returning home the next morning, he discovered that his Sanya-branded motorbike, with registration number M-17-VR 1608, had been stolen. The complainant initiated a community-wide search, eventually locating the damaged and abandoned motorbike in a bush.

Following the incident, the complainant reported the theft to the Kwamekrom police. Their investigation led to the arrest of Amewuame at a hideout in Bodada near Jasikan. During the investigation, Amewuame admitted to the offenses in his caution statement to the police. The presiding judge ordered the return of the motorbike to its rightful owner.
