Two Dead, Three Injured After Building Collapses During Downpour in Cape Coast

Cape Coast: Two people have perished while three others sustained life-threatening injuries after an old story building collapsed on them during Saturday's early morning downpour in Cape Coast. The disaster occurred adjacent to the famous London Bridge.

According to Ghana News Agency, the five victims were trapped under the rubble for hours before they were rescued by a joint team of police, NADMO, and the Ghana National Fire Service. A police source informed that they received a call concerning the incident at 0530 hours and rushed to the scene. They were later joined by the NADMO and Fire Service teams to proceed with the search.

The rescue operation was able to save three people, who were found alive, but, unfortunately, the two other victims were found dead. The last person was found dead around 1440 hours. The survivors were sent to the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital and are responding to treatment, the source said.

Meanwhile, the team is making efforts to pull down another dilapidated storey structure which is on the verge of collapse following the heavy rains. All occupants have been evacuated, and the building has been barricaded by the police.
