Accra: The Oti Regional Co-ordinating Council (ORCC) has inaugurated a 21-member Regional Environmental Sanitation Taskforce to address poor sanitation issues in the region through law enforcement. The taskforce is expected to work tirelessly to achieve these objectives, improving sanitation management in the region and promoting a healthier environment for residents.
According to Ghana News Agency, the event, held under the theme 'Strengthening Sanitation Law Enforcement for a Cleaner and Healthier Oti Region,' was led by Oti Regional Minister, Mr. John Kwadwo Gyapong, in collaboration with Environmental Health Officers. The Minister emphasized the importance of sanitation in promoting public health and community well-being, urging stakeholders to support and collaborate with the taskforce. He encouraged residents to take ownership of their surroundings, stressing that sanitation should be a communal priority.
Mr. Gyapong, addressing the participants during the event, stated that the initiative aligns with President Mahama's agenda, 'Resetting the Country,' which emphasizes a renewed focus on development, inclusivity, and sustainability. The Regional Environmental Health Officer, Madam Cynthia Sekyere, has called on residents to support the initiative to make Oti one of Ghana's cleanest regions. She emphasized that poor sanitation practices have contributed to choked drains, indiscriminate dumping of refuse, open defecation, and public health crises.
Expressing optimism about the impact of the newly inaugurated regional environmental sanitation taskforce, Ms. Sekyere believes that the taskforce will play a crucial role in addressing sanitation issues in the area. She urged residents to support the initiative, emphasizing the importance of collective action in achieving a cleaner and healthier Oti Region.
Mr. Prosper Kwaku Addo, Dean of Municipal and District Chief Executives (MDCEs), has charged the newly inaugurated regional environmental sanitation taskforce to carry out their duties without fear. Mr. Addo, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Krachi West, appealed to the taskforce committee to perform their duties free from partisan, religious, and tribal biases, upholding the oath they have sworn.
