Accra: The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport Ghana (CILT) and the World Food Programme (WFP) Transport Training Centre project (TTC) have successfully trained professionals in the transport sector on vehicle fleet management. The initiative aims to enhance the capacity of logistics and transport sector practitioners to adopt best practices in fleet management within their organisations, as stated in a report shared with the Ghana News Agency.According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Mark Amoamah, President of CILT Ghana, emphasized that this collaboration would promote policies and strategies within the humanitarian logistics and transport sector in Ghana. He remarked, "This collaboration would further our respective missions by establishing a new platform in areas of mutual interest, to support existing policies and strategies to enhance the capacity of supply chain, logistics, and transport professionals equipping them with the skills to deliver life-saving goods such as food and medicine more effi ciently throughout the region."Data from the CILT reveals that the total fleet size of three public sector institutions in Ghana alone exceeds 5,000 vehicles, with their estimated budget running into millions of cedis annually. This budget covers operation and maintenance, transport logistics, human resources, and more. Mr. Amoamah highlighted that the level of investment involved necessitates "careful supervision" and management by skilled professionals to ensure efficient achievement of organisational goals.Mr. Neil Kwaku Vorleto, a trainer at WFP's Transport Training Centre in Accra, underscored the importance of such training programs. He stated that the training equips participants with the requisite knowledge in vehicle fleet management, enabling them to become skilled fleet managers. "Ultimately, the participants would benefit from the private sectors, the project partners, best practices and receive essential operational knowledge," he said.Throughout the training, experts provided insights into various aspects of fleet management, focusing on optimizing fleet operations, vehicle maintenance management, and fleet management strategies.
