Traders, Businesses, Cautioned Against Online Scams

Berekum: Mr. Gilbert Benneh Pewodie, the Bono, Ahafo and Bono East Regional Manager of the Ghana Cooperative Credit Union Association, has cautioned traders, businesses, and entrepreneurs to be wary of the growing trend of online scams. He urged them to be cautious in registering with online financial institutions, which promised them lucrative offers, stating that many of these institutions were scammers exploiting the ignorance of unsuspecting traders and businesses to defraud them.

According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Pewodie gave this advice while addressing the 24th Annual General Meeting of the Berekum chapter of the Union in the Bono Region. He noted that many fraudulent online financial institutions promise to offer loans and other credit facilities but end up duping many unsuspecting victims. He urged businesses, entrepreneurs, and traders, especially market women, to be cautious in transacting business with these firms.

Mr. Pewodie also advised individuals and businesses to check the backgrounds of online financial institutions on the Bank of Ghana's official website to verify their legitimacy. He encouraged them to avoid keeping money at home and instead adopt the habit of saving with genuinely established financial institutions. Additionally, he cautioned about the resurgence of unscrupulous activities involving money doubling schemes.

Mr. Charles Nii Tagoe, the Board Chairman of Berekum Areas Teachers Cooperative Union, commended customers for their loyalty and dedication in doing business with the union.
