Tourism Minister Vows Swift Restoration Following Accra Tourist Information Centre Fire

Accra: Madam Abla Dzifa Gomashie, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, has expressed heartfelt sympathies to staff, agencies, and stakeholders affected by the recent fire outbreak at the Accra Tourist Information Centre (ATIC).

According to Ghana News Agency, the Minister confirmed that a fire outbreak occurred in the early hours of Monday, August 4, 2025, at the Centre, causing significant damage to several offices within the facility. She stated that the government remained fully committed to the restoration and rehabilitation of the ATIC facility, assuring that immediate steps would be taken to restore the centre to full operations as soon as the final report is received.

The Minister also praised the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) for its prompt and professional response, which was crucial in controlling the situation. The incident began around 1230 hours and was swiftly contained by GNFS personnel, preventing a potentially more extensive disaster.

No casualties or injuries were reported, but several key offices within the ATIC premises sustained considerable damage. Affected institutions include the International Affairs Department and Call Centre of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), the Tour Operators Union of Ghana, the National Film Authority, and several private businesses in the travel, tour, and hospitality sectors.

A preliminary report from the GNFS, along with a review of CCTV footage, indicated that the fire originated from one corner of the building before spreading to adjacent offices. The exact cause of the fire is yet to be determined as investigations continue.

The Ministry urged all stakeholders to remain calm and cooperative during the investigation process and reaffirmed its dedication to safeguarding Ghana's tourism infrastructure.
