Accra: Madam Abla Dzifa Gomashie, the Minister-Designate for Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts, has emphasised the urgent need to improve Ghana’s hospitality infrastructure to attract more visitors and boost national revenue. Appearing before the Appointments Committee of Parliament on Wednesday, Madam Gomashie lamented the inadequate infrastructure, citing high hotel rates and insufficient capacity to meet growing demands.
According to Ghana News Agency, Madam Gomashie highlighted that hotel rates in Ghana are comparatively high, even for hotels that have franchises in other countries. She stressed that this has been a continuous topic of discussion and needs urgent attention to make the country more competitive in the tourism sector.
The nominee pledged to collaborate with the private sector to enhance infrastructure and increase capacity. She invited stakeholders willing to engage with the private sector in Ghana to work towards improving infrastructure capacities. She indicated her commitment to addressing this issue if confirmed as Minister.
Madam Gomashie also noted that the current lack of adequate infrastructure has resulted in significant revenue loss for the country. She intends to engage with the Minister of Finance and other relevant parties to address the challenges facing the hospitality sector.
