Keta: Togbi Tenge Dzokoto Gligui VII, the Dufia of Anyako and Paramount Chief of Amugo-Vego Traditional Area in the Volta Region, has made a significant donation to the dialysis unit at Keta Municipal Hospital. This contribution aims to bolster healthcare delivery at the facility.According to Ghana News Agency, the donation, comprising various essential medical supplies valued at millions of cedis, included hemodialysis Sodium Bicarbonate cartridges, AV Set fistula needles, polyethersulfone hollow fiber hemodialyzers, and other necessary blood purification equipment. These items are intended to aid the hospital staff in providing effective care to patients.Mama Tenge Dzokoto Gligui, representing Togbi Dzokoto Gligui, highlighted the initiative as a gesture of giving back to the community for enhanced healthcare. She emphasized Togbi's satisfaction with the dialysis unit's progress and its impact on patients, reaffirming his commitment to further support the hospital's efforts.Mama Dzokoto Gligui further explained that the dialysis unit aims to offer accessible and affordable treatment to patients with renal failure in Southern Volta and surrounding areas, ultimately reducing the morbidity and mortality associated with kidney diseases. She noted that renal disease remains a significant public health concern in Ghana and West Africa, with limited access to dialysis services in many regions. Togbi Dzokoto Gligui's establishment of the unit seeks to address these challenges.The dialysis unit, inaugurated on August 15, 2024, has become a critical healthcare facility, extending services to patients from other regions and neighboring Togo. Mama Dzokoto Gligui praised the hospital administration and healthcare workers for maintaining a 24-hour service and encouraged dialysis patients to utilize the center.Dr. Ofori-Dwumfour, Special Advisor to Togbi Dzokoto Gligui, and Mama Napo, Special Assistant to Togbi, also attended the ceremony and expressed enthusiasm about the unit's progress. They urged the public to ta ke advantage of the facility's resources to address their health challenges.Alhaji Faruk Iddrissu, the hospital administrator, received the donated items, expressing gratitude to Togbi Dzokoto Gligui for his continued support and pledging to use the supplies effectively.The Ghana News Agency reported that the unit, fully equipped by Togbi Dzokoto Gligui, features advanced dialysis machines and infrastructure. It has facilitated early diagnosis and intervention through community outreach and referrals, trained healthcare personnel, and conducted over 700 dialysis sessions with a male predominance among patients.Patients expressed relief at the reduced travel burdens and increased awareness brought by the unit, thanking Togbi Tenge Dzokoto Gligui for his ongoing support. They appealed for additional assistance from individuals, philanthropists, corporate institutions, and the government to address challenges like supply chain issues, machine capacity, staff constraints, and power supply.
