Accra: The 14-year-old male suspect in a knife attack on his music teacher, in a secondary school in France’s Alsace region, has died most likely from self-inflicted stab wounds, the responsible prosecutor in Strasbourg, Clarisse Taron, confirmed on Monday.
According to Ghana News Agency, the teenager had injured his teacher with a stab to the face in the school hallway, before classes began last Wednesday. Following the incident in the town of Benfeld near the German border, the student fled. Before officers apprehended him, he inflicted several life-threatening stab wounds on himself, according to the prosecutor. He was then taken to a hospital and placed in an induced coma.
The investigation into the cause of death is still ongoing, but it is likely due to these stab wounds, the prosecutor now reports. The reasons for the attack are still unknown, according to French media. The student reportedly attracted attention for a fascination with Hitler and weapons, and was temporarily excluded from classes due to this.
The teenager had lived in a foster family for a long time and most recently in a children’s home, and was under psychosocial care, Taron stated previously. The 66-year-old teacher was taken to a hospital after the attack and received psychological help, according to the prosecutor.
