Major General Gbetanu Initiates Familiarisation Visit to Nkwanta

Nkwanta: Major General Gbetanu Lawrence, Chief of Army Staff, has embarked on a familiarisation visit to the Nkwanta South Municipality in the Oti Region. The visit comes amid rising tensions that have caused concern within the community and highlighted the urgent need for peacekeeping measures.

According to Ghana News Agency, the Major General met with the Regional Minister, Mr. John Kwadwo Gyapong, and other security officials to assess the situation firsthand. His mission was not only to gather information but also to reassure the public of the army's commitment to restoring peace and order.

He expressed gratitude to the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) and the Assembly for their continued efforts with the military detachment in maintaining peace in the area. Additionally, Major General Gbetanu announced the establishment of a military base in Dambai, the capital town of the Oti Region, aimed at enhancing security and providing rapid response teams capable of addressing any future conflicts effectively.

Major General Gbetanu also emphasized that the military presence would not only deter violence but also support law enforcement agencies. Mr. Joseph Kwame Antwi Awal, the Municipal Chief Executive of Nkwanta South, expressed gratitude for the army's intervention, noting that it demonstrates a positive support approach to conflict resolution and community safety.

He also called on the Major General to provide the detachment with more vehicles and logistical support to enhance effective patrols and promote lasting peace in the area.
