Tema: The TDC Ghana Limited, led by Managing Director Courage Nunekpeku, has initiated a significant revenue collection effort targeting companies and establishments that have defaulted on ground rent payments for several years. The initiative aims to recover substantial debts from various entities, including churches, schools, companies, hotels, and industries, some of which have been in arrears for up to a decade.
According to Ghana News Agency, the collection drive has already resulted in several establishments, such as Naky's Hotel, Amaris Terminal, the Tema Mall, and Datus School, making payments to demonstrate their commitment to settling their debts. The operation involved locking up the premises of these organizations, prompting either full or partial payment as a show of compliance.
Managing Director Courage Nunekpeku reported the exercise as successful and emphasized the plan to continue the initiative through the end of the year. Highlighting the magnitude of the outstanding debts, Nunekpeku stated, "We have so much out there; when we add the big guys, TOR and VALCO, we have in excess of 600 million Ghana cedis out there. We are sending this signal to everyone that they should come and fulfil their statutory obligation to the state by paying what is due the state."
Nunekpeku further underscored the positive response from debtors and reiterated the seriousness of the TDC in revenue collection, regardless of the debtor's identity. He noted that recouping these funds is essential for paying dividends to the government.
Additionally, Nunekpeku announced plans for a special exercise on Sundays aimed at churches, quoting the biblical principle of rendering unto Caesar. He also urged residents in TDC properties to clear their debts proactively before TDC officials visit them.
