Takoradi SHS gets new 12-unit girls’ dormitory

Tullow Ghana Limited has built a 12-unit girls' dormitory block for the Takoradi Senior High School (TADISCO) in the Western Region.Madam Cynthia Lumor, the Deputy Managing Director, Tullow Ghana Ltd, at a ceremony to inaugurate the block, said the gesture was in line with the organisation's commitment to investing $10 million over five years in infrastructure for 15 senior high schools across the country.'We know that this commitment in terms of what we have done out of the targeted 15 schools has already made tremendous impact in school results, social progress and other ways that will support quality education for all Ghanaians,' she said.'…We see platforms like this as an opportunity to extend and entrench our commitment to the local communities where we live and work.'Madam Lumor said the investment was to help harness the creative and innovative potential of the students to contribute to the growth of the country in their future endeavours.'Today, we are taking a significant step towards empo wering the young minds of Takoradi SHS to contribute to a brighter, more resilient and prosperous society,' she said.'It is our hope that the new facility will go a long way to foster critical thinking, creativity and problem solving that are essential for addressing the complex challenges of our time.'Madam Lumor expressed appreciation to all stakeholders whose collaboration ensured the project came to fruition.Mr George Effah, the Acting Western Regional Director of Education, said the inauguration of the dormitory block marked a significant milestone in the history of the school, and represented the unwavering commitment of Tullow Ghana in providing an environment where every student, regardless of gender, had the opportunity to thrive academically and personally.'By Investing in this dormitory, Tullow is not only enhancing our infrastructure but also sending a powerful message about the value they place on our students' wellbeing and education,' he said.He noted that the new facility would provi de a safe, comfortable, and conducive environment for the girls to live and study, while fostering a sense of community, promoting academic excellence, and supporting their personal growth.Madam Cynthia Ackon, the Headmistress of TADISCO, expressed gratitude to Tullow Ghana for helping to address the accommodation deficit in the school, especially for the girls.'Your investment in this dormitory is an investment in the future of our girls and, by extension, the future of our society and commitment to education and gender equality is commendable, we are deeply grateful for your partnership,' she said.She pledged her commitment to ensuring that the facility was maintained properly to guarantee its longevity.Mr Elijah Boye-Ampah, a Senior Social Performance Advisor and Project Lead, detailing the scope of the facility, mentioned that the 12-unit dormitory project has 180 beds, washrooms, two chop-box rooms, ironing area, and a 40,000-litre water reservoir.Others are a two-bedroom apartment for the resi dent housemaster, common room, courtyard, and assembly point.The inauguration was graced by Nana Eziaku IV, Acting President of the Ahanta Traditional Council, Mr Kojo Acquah, the Effia-Kwesimintsim Municipal Chief Executive, staff of Tullow, and teachers and students of TADISCO, among others.Source: Ghana News Agency
