Takoradi Air Force Base Faces Significant Land Encroachment

Takoradi: About 88 out of 618 acres of land allocated by the central government to the Takoradi Air Force Base in the Western Region have been taken over by encroachers. Air Commodore Kwabena Kissiedu Manukure Atiemo, the Base Commander, expressed concerns over the severe repercussions this encroachment has on their operations, urging urgent action to safeguard the land for the continued operational effectiveness of the Ghana Air Force.

According to Ghana News Agency, Air Commodore Atiemo highlighted land administration issues and the failure to secure a cadastral for the entire area as primary reasons for the ongoing encroachment. He emphasized his commitment to continue the efforts of the previous Base Commander to address the issue. During a briefing with Mr. Joseph Nelson, the Western Regional Minister, Air Commodore Atiemo appealed for collaboration with relevant stakeholders to regain control over the encroached military territory.

Mr. Nelson assured the Air Force Base of his support in protecting the lands, especially those within their primary operational area. He emphasized the need for effective collaboration and communication among key stakeholders, including the government, to tackle the increasing land encroachments.

During his visit, Mr. Nelson engaged with officers, personnel, and other stakeholders of the Air Force Base to foster collaboration. He also toured the facilities, gaining insights into the Base's operations and infrastructure, and inspected ongoing projects, showing his interest in the Base's development and progress.
