Sung Foundation creates awareness on clean energy for transportation

Sung Foundation, an NGO, has organised awareness creation on clean energy for transportation amongst transport sector stakeholders in Tamale.The event brought together key stakeholders in the transportation sector and the electronic vehicle company in the Northern Region under the clean energy transport project initiative to reduce carbon emissions into the atmosphere.The event was to create awareness for the adoption of clean energy solutions within the sector.The project, funded by Gower Street Activity and implemented by Sung Foundation, is aimed at strengthening eco-clubs and establishment of new ones, and advocacy on clean cooking strategies.It further advocates for the establishment of community by-laws to protect trees and the environment and promote solar energy for domestic users.Miss Mary Badijigra Hahami, Project Officer at Sung Foundation, speaking during the event, said one of the most immediate and visible impacts of the climate change crisis was air pollution, much of which was cause d by the burning of fossil fuels, especially by vehicles.She said, 'Every day, millions of cars, trucks, and buses powered by gasoline and diesel fuel, release harmful pollutants into the air, which contain carbon dioxide (CO2), nitrogen oxides (NOx), and contribute not only to global warming but also to serious public health issues.'She said pollution from vehicles was a leading cause of respiratory and cardiovascular diseases.She indicated that fossil fuel-powered vehicles were one of the largest sources of CO² emissions, which is a key driver of climate change.Ms Hahami urged stakeholders to invest in sustainable infrastructure that supported cleaner modes of transportation.She entreated citizens to support the government in a behavioural change drive to tackle plastic pollution to avoid environmental disasters and called on members of the public to grow trees to protect the environment.Source: Ghana News Agency
