Tamale: STAR Ghana Foundation, in partnership with the National Peace Council, has launched a youth for peace campaign aimed at empowering young people to become ambassadors for peace as the nation approaches this year's elections. The initiative seeks to harness the potential of the youth in promoting peaceful electoral processes and fostering inclusive development within communities.According to Ghana News Agency, the launch event took place in Tamale with support from the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office. The event brought together young individuals from various backgrounds, equipping them with essential knowledge and skills in peacebuilding, conflict transformation, and understanding electoral processes. This initiative is a proactive measure to engage the youth in ensuring peaceful and credible elections.Alhaji Ibrahim Amidu-Tanko, Executive Director of STAR Ghana Foundation, highlighted during the launch the critical role of peaceful elections in promoting inclusive development. He urged the youth to actively participate in ensuring that the electoral process is peaceful, credible, and inclusive. Additionally, he encouraged young people to continue their efforts beyond the elections by holding leaders accountable and ensuring that policies are aligned with their needs.Reverend Father Thaddeus Kuusah, Executive Secretary of the Northern Regional Peace Council, stressed the importance of verifying information before sharing it. He pointed out that misinformation could escalate into serious conflicts, and thus, urged the youth to act as peace ambassadors by promoting peace and unity through social media, community events, and dialogue.Ms. Rahana Abdul Majid, a participant in the event, expressed her appreciation for the initiative, noting that it had prepared her to effectively promote peace in her community, particularly during the upcoming elections.
