According to Ghana News Agency, D'Angelo's family expressed their sorrow in a statement shared across various US media platforms, saying, "The shining star of our family has dimmed his light for us in this life." The statement also highlighted his "prolonged and courageous battle with cancer," and the family conveyed their gratitude for the legacy of his exceptionally moving music.

Born as Michael Archer in Virginia in 1974, D'Angelo showed musical talent from a young age. His first album, 'Brown Sugar,' released in 1995, earned multiple Grammy nominations and marked the beginning of his influential career. In 2000, he gained global recognition with his album 'Voodoo,' featuring the iconic track 'Untitled (How Does It Feel).' He continued to make a significant impact with the release of 'Black Messiah' in 2014.
