Small Arms Commission, Border Security Agencies Walk to Silence the guns in Elubo.

Elubo: The National Commission on Small Arms and Light Weapons in collaboration with Elubo Border Security Agencies (BOSEC), on Saturday organised a 'Silence the Gun to Save a Life' walk through the principal streets of Elubo.According to Ghana News Agency, the event, held on the theme, 'Peace Walk for Peaceful Elections,' brought together community leaders and security personnel to raise awareness about the dangers of gun misuse, particularly in the lead-up to Ghana's 2024 general elections. The walk began at the Elubo Border Post, with participants donning branded T-shirts and holding banners that read, 'Silence the Gun for a Safer Ghana.'Amid chants for unity and songs of hope, the procession moved through the town, drawing attention from residents and market-goers who paused to engage with the campaign's message. Interacting with the leadership of BOSEC at Elubo, the Executive Secretary of the Small Arms Commission, Mr. Sam W. Yeboah, emphasised the importance of preventing electoral violence, say ing, 'Guns have no place in democracy. Peace is our most valuable asset as a nation, and we must protect it together.'The Chair of BOSEC echoed the sentiment, urging citizens to report any illegal possession or suspicious use of firearms in their communities. He stated, 'Our collective vigilance will ensure a peaceful and secure election season.' The walk terminated at the Elubo Border Post, where Security officers had gathered to be addressed by Bosec leadership.Residents expressed their gratitude for the initiative. 'This walk reminds us of the need to stay peaceful and avoid conflicts during the elections,' said Yaa Nyarko, a market trader who witnessed the procession. The 'Silence the Gun' peace walk is part of a broader nationwide campaign aimed at fostering peaceful coexistence and ensuring a violence-free electoral process in 2024. Organisers hope the message resonates across Ghana, reinforcing the country's reputation as a beacon of democracy in Africa.
