Six Suspects Apprehended for Illegal Mining Operations at Bepoakyi

Tarkwa: Six suspects have been apprehended by the Western Central Regional Police Command in connection with illegal mining operations at Bepoakyi, near Dompim in the Western Region. The arrest was made on April 23, 2025, and was part of the ongoing anti-galamsey operations.

According to Ghana News Agency, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Desmond Boampong, Western Central Regional Police Commander, addressed journalists at a press conference in Tarkwa, providing details on the arrests. The suspects have been identified as Justice Tetteh, Michael Anche, Bismark Gyimah, Ramzy Amoah, Michael Attivor, and Emmanuel Andoh.

DCOP Boampong explained that the police retrieved five excavators from the suspects, which are currently in police custody at Dompim, awaiting evacuation to the Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipal Assembly. He stated that the six suspects were currently in police custody assisting in the investigations.

DCOP Boampong assured the public that their crackdown on illegal mining would continue unabated to preserve their natural resources, emphasizing the commitment to combat illegal mining activities in the region.
