Dusseldorf: A prisoner managed to escape from a court hearing in Dusseldorf, Germany, by scaling a high security fence. The escape occurred on Monday as the man, who is wanted for dangerous bodily harm and aggravated gang theft, was attending a hearing concerning an Austrian extradition request.
According to Ghana News Agency, the prisoner had been taken to a meeting room within a specially secured detention area to speak with his lawyer. After leaving the room, he found his way through a side door into the inner courtyard. It was there that he scaled the high security fence and made his escape, as confirmed by a court spokeswoman. Fortunately, no injuries were reported during the incident.
Efforts to locate the escaped prisoner included the deployment of a helicopter and search dogs, as reported by a police spokesperson. Additionally, riot police were called in to assist with the search.
