Sissala West District Launches Network of Practice to Enhance Health Services.


Gwollu: The Sissala West District Directorate of the Ghana Health Service (GHS) has officially launched its Network of Practice (NoP), a strategic initiative designed to enhance health services and prevent avoidable deaths. This move marks a significant step in the district’s efforts to improve healthcare delivery and achieve Universal Health Coverage, as highlighted by Dr. Damien Ponguyire, the Upper West Regional Director of the GHS, during a durbar held at Gwollu.

According to Ghana News Agency, Dr. Ponguyire emphasized the importance of the NoP in pooling resources from both public and private facilities, alongside community members, to ensure continuous health service delivery. He urged stakeholders to support this initiative, which aims to alleviate pressure on larger healthcare facilities, allowing them to focus on emergencies and complex cases. Dr. Ponguyire also called for improved coordination and resource sharing among health staff to enhance service quality.

District Director of Health Service, reiterated the critical role of health in promoting socio-economic activities and growth. He urged stakeholders to embrace the NoP, likening it to a hub and spokes model where sub-district facilities collaborate to optimize resources and expertise. Dr. Tengan identified several barriers to effective service delivery, including poor referral systems, inadequate transportation, staffing shortages, and dilapidated infrastructure, urging collective efforts to address these challenges.

Mr. Mahmoud Forkah, the Sissala West District Chief Executive, expressed confidence in the NoP’s potential to overcome existing challenges in the health sector. He assured the Assembly’s full support and highlighted the government’s commitment to addressing citizens’ health needs. Forkah urged health workers to adhere to professional ethics and execute their duties with dignity and respect.

Kuoro Daniel Bajor Limann V, the Paramount Chief of the Gwollu traditional area, applauded the GHS for th
e NoP initiative, expressing optimism about its impact on health service quality. He encouraged stakeholders to back the initiative, emphasizing its potential to improve healthcare in the district. Kuoru Bajor Limann also appealed for the posting of a Medical Doctor at Gwollu Hospital to further enhance local health services.
