Tumu: The Sissala Union, a non-partisan development group in the Sissala Area, has expressed appreciation to President John Dramani Mahama for prioritizing road infrastructure development in the region. The Union highlighted the inclusion of roads in the area under the government's 'Big Push' infrastructure agenda as a significant breakthrough.
According to Ghana News Agency, the Union conveyed its gratitude in a statement issued by its President, Mr. Mahamud Bakah Adunah, which was disseminated to the news agency in Tumu. This commendation followed a declaration by Mr. Cassel Ato Forson, Minister of Finance, regarding the inclusion of Sissala roads in the 'Big Push' agenda during the presentation of the 2025 Mid-Year Fiscal Policy Review to Parliament on July 24, 2025.
The Union attributed this development to a recent visit by Mr. Governs Agboadza, Minister of Roads and Highways, and his Deputy, Mr. Alhassan Suhuyini, to the Sissala area. The visit purportedly provided firsthand insight into the poor state of road infrastructure in the region. The Union noted that for over 30 years, various administrations had been petitioned in vain, and now seeing their concerns addressed in the 'Big Push' project was encouraging.
The Sissala Union underscored the region's importance as an international boundary with Burkina Faso and its role as an agricultural hub, producing notable quantities of maize and possessing resources like gold and iron ore. The Union also commended the appointment of Mr. Mohammed Adams Sukparu, Member of Parliament for Sissala West, as Deputy Minister for Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovations, with his appointment receiving parliamentary approval.
While extending gratitude to President Mahama, the Union urged that the commitment demonstrated should be matched by action. The statement called for the engagement of competent contractors, timely fund disbursement, effective supervision, and community involvement to ensure the successful execution of the road projects.
The Union further appealed to the government to invest in sustainable exploitation of the area's mineral resources, such as gold and iron ore, and to develop the agricultural sector to promote long-term socio-economic growth in the region and the country at large. The statement concluded by expressing the Union's appreciation on behalf of the chiefs and people of the Sissala area for the President's attention to their needs.
