Tamale: Sheikh Issah Abubakar, Regional Manager of Islamic Education Unit in Tamale, has called on youth activists from various political parties to refrain from viewing each other as adversaries due to differing political affiliations, especially as the December elections approach. He emphasized the importance of leveraging political opportunities to foster unity within communities for sustainable development.According to Ghana News Agency, Sheikh Abubakar expressed concern over the divisions caused by partisan politics within families and communities. He stressed that while it is not a crime to hold different political beliefs in Ghana, resorting to attacks and abuse is detrimental to the national interest. His remarks were made during a forum in Nanton, Northern Region, focused on promoting peace and tolerance among political party youth activists before, during, and after the 2024 general elections.The event, organized by the Nanton District Directorate of the National Commission for Civic Education ( NCCE) with support from the European Union, aimed to prevent and contain violent extremism in Northern Ghana. Attendees included representatives from various political parties, youth groups, religious leaders, and other stakeholders.Mr. Ibrahim Iddrisu, Nanton District Director of NCCE, highlighted the forum's purpose: to enhance participants' understanding of peaceful coexistence, tolerance, and non-violence. He urged political activists not to succumb to political manipulation that could lead to electoral violence, advocating for peace throughout the electoral process.Meanwhile, Mr. Inusah Iddrisu, Principal Public Education and Investigation Officer at the Northern Regional Office of the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice, addressed the issue of misinformation. He encouraged the youth to verify information to prevent the spread of falsehoods capable of inciting unrest.The participants lauded the NCCE and its partners for the initiative, expressing their commitment to promoting peac e and tolerance within their communities.
