Accra: The Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL), in collaboration with the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) Training Centre, recently organized a one-day international technical exchange seminar for engineers and technicians. This event attracted 40 participants from various esteemed organizations, including Bui Power, Volta River Authority (VRA), Ministry of Energy, Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo), Aksa, Karpowership, Early Power, Asogli Power Plant, ECG, and DWA Renewables.According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Sthit Sharma, the Sales Manager for East and West Africa for SEL, highlighted that this seminar was the second of its kind organized by the company for the utility and industrial market in Ghana. The seminar aimed to enhance the participants' understanding of recent technological advancements, such as automation of substations, managing renewable energy sources, and conventional generation protection for hydro and thermal generators. It also covered topics on energy storage and grid management, as well as travel wave technology for fault location on transmission lines.Mr. Sharma emphasized the long-standing adoption of SEL technology in Ghana and noted that feedback from the previous year's training led to a revised agenda for this year's seminar. He added that ECG had provided additional input to tailor the training for both new and experienced engineers.Mr. Godfred Mensah, Director of the ECG Training Centre, expressed that the international exchange program was designed to transfer knowledge to engineers and technicians across Ghana. He stated that the collaboration with SEL has effectively marketed their training center and facilitated knowledge sharing among engineers from various utility companies. This initiative is expected to significantly improve the performance of Ghana's power sector.Mr. Mensah also mentioned that the collaboration with SEL would enable the ECG Training Centre to offer courses both online and in-person. As part of the partnership, SEL would donate equipment to the tra ining center, allowing engineers to gain hands-on experience in power systems, protection and control, and automation. This initiative aims to keep engineers abreast of emerging global technologies.The collaboration is set to provide ECG with a platform for professional knowledge exchange, access to essential equipment for training labs, and opportunities for both online and in-person training sessions.
