Road Crashes Surge in Ahafo Region in 2024, Reports NRSA

Ahafo Region: The Ahafo Region experienced a surge in road crashes in 2024, recording 139 cases and 43 deaths, Miss Indira Apronti, the Ahafo Regional Head of the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) has disclosed.

According to Ghana News Agency, the cases represented an increase of 8.6 percent compared to the previous year, with the region recording 128 crashes in 2023, resulting in 42 fatalities and leaving 185 others with injuries. Miss Apronti, in an interview at Goaso, the regional capital, attributed the rise in road crashes to gross disregard for road traffic regulations, with speeding and overloading identified as major challenges.

The Authority has intensified road safety enforcement and is collaborating with stakeholders to manage the situation in 2025. Efforts include enhanced radio sensitization programmes involving municipal and district assemblies and traditional authorities in the region.

Miss Apronti urged commercial drivers, motorists, and all road users to exercise caution and adhere to regulations and road signs to reduce crashes this year.
