Residence of Pusiga MP in Bawku Attacked, Mattress and Bed Burnt

Bawku: The private residence of Hajia Laadi Ayii Ayamba, the Member of Parliament for the Pusiga constituency in Bawku, has been attacked by some armed men, burning a mattress and a bed in the house.

According to Ghana News Agency, the incident occurred around midday on Thursday, April 10, 2025, and resulted in damages to the doors and windows of the house. Security sources reported that some irate youth, armed with guns, stormed the house and fired gunshots, which led to damages to the doors, windows, and other parts of the house. They also set ablaze a mattress and a bed in a summer hut used by security during duties; however, no casualties have been recorded.

The Ghana News Agency also obtained information regarding a failed attempt to attack the private residence of Mr. Mahama Ayariga, the MP for Bawku Central Constituency in Bawku. The perpetrators and the motive behind these attacks have not yet been established. However, sources from the agency revealed that the MP's residence provided accommodation for some police officers working in the area.

Security sources have linked the incident to Wednesday's violent clashes between the police and some irate youth from one of the factions involved in the longstanding Bawku chieftaincy conflict. The clashes resulted in the death of one civilian, Fuseini Iddrisu, and the burning of police barracks, a police vehicle, and private residences of three police officers, including Assistant Commissioner of Police, Adamu Seidu, the Bawku Divisional Police Commander. A police officer and an immigration officer were also shot, while other civilians sustained injuries and are currently receiving medical treatment.

Tension in the area is escalating, but the police and other security agencies have intensified efforts to maintain calm and order. The police have advised the feuding factions to leave the security agencies out of their conflict, emphasizing that their presence is to protect lives and properties and not to meddle in chieftaincy issues.
