Renaming Accra and Tamale Airports Seen as Potential Legacy of President Mahama

Tamale: President John Mahama has been urged to rename Kotoka International Airport in Accra and Yakubu Tali International Airport in Tamale as Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah International Airport and Naa Gbewaa International Airport, respectively. Mr. Benjamin Anyagre Aziginaateeg, Chief Executive Officer of AfriKan Continental Union Consult, emphasized that such a move would be recognized as one of the significant legacies of President Mahama's leadership.

According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Aziginaateeg highlighted that renaming the airports would align President Mahama with leaders who have demonstrated the foresight to implement transformative changes in their countries. He noted that many nations have honored their founders by naming major entry points after them, which has often been beneficial.

Mr. Aziginaateeg further explained that the renaming would contribute to reviving the soul of the nation, fostering new ideas and positive thinking that could lead to societal transformation. The suggestion to rename Yakubu Tali International Airport was initially made by Ya-Na Abukari II during a visit by President Mahama to the Gbewaa Palace in Yendi earlier this year.

Mr. Aziginaateeg praised Ya-Na's proposal, stating that it would support the preservation of historical and cultural heritage, strengthen community identity, and promote unity. He also pointed out the strategic importance of the Tamale airport, suggesting that it could serve as a pivotal stopover between Asia and North America, and that naming it after Naa Gbewaa would be fitting.

Additionally, Mr. Aziginaateeg called for greater unity among African nations to enhance their influence on the global stage.
