Accra: Mr Haruna Iddrisu, Minister of Education, has charged the reconstituted council of the Akenten Appiah-Menka University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development (AAMUSTED) to discharge its duties diligently to justify the confidence repose in them by the President.According to Ghana News Agency, the President holds the council members in high regard for their academic and professional stature, and expected them not only to bring pride to the appointing authority, but also to contribute to making the university an outstanding institution of higher learning. Mr Iddrisu made the call during the inauguration of the reconstituted council in Accra.The 15-member new council is under the chairmanship of Professor William Otoo Ellis, a professor of Food Science and former Vice Chancellor of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Kumasi. Other members of the council include Professor Frederick Kwaku Sarfo, Vice Chancellor AAMUSTED, Mrs Joana Appiah-Dwomoh, Madam Mary Agbev iade, Dr Frank Yao Gbadago, and Professor Joseph Yensu.The rest of the council comprises Mr Joseph Mensah Oti-Asirifi, representing the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission, Professor Dr Gilbert Owiah Sampson, representative of the university convocation, Mr Samuel Osei Sasu, representing the Association of Principals of Technical and Vocational Education and Training, Mr Anthony Syram Kwame Zu, representing the Commission for Technical and Vocational Training, Professor Yarhands Dissou Arthur, representing AAMUSTED branch of University Teachers Association, Engineer Professor Humphrey Danso, AAMUSTED Alumni Association, Dr Samuel Sylvester Anim-Yeboah, Association of Ghana Industries, and Mr David Akuette Otchere, representing students of the university.Mr Iddrisu assured the council of the government's commitment to providing the necessary resources to support the university's growth. He mentioned that the Italian government had pledged to release a five-million euro facility to support educational devel opment in Ghana, with a portion allocated to AAMUSTED. Additionally, efforts were underway to secure funding from the GETfund for 10 tertiary institutions, including the university.Professor Ellis, chairman of the council, expressed profound gratitude to President Mahama for entrusting them with the unique responsibility of steering the University's strategic direction. He pledged, on behalf of the council, to work tirelessly to reposition AAMUSTED for excellence, assuring the government that the Council's achievements would speak for themselves in due course.The inauguration ceremony also witnessed the swearing-in of the Governing Councils of six other institutions: Kumasi Technical University (KsTU), Cape Coast Technical University (CCTU), Ho Technical University (HTU), Takoradi Technical University (TTU), the University of Media, Arts and Communication (UNIMAC), and the Complementary Education Agency (CEA).
