Queen Mothers in Bono Trained to Combat Disinformation and Misinformation

Sunyani: The Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS) Ghana Office, in collaboration with the National Queen Mothers Association, Bono Region chapter, has organized a capacity-building workshop to empower Queen Mothers to identify and combat disinformation and misinformation in their communities.

According to Ghana News Agency, the training formed part of the sixth annual Queen Mothers' workshop, held in Sunyani on the theme: 'Combating Disinformation and Misinformation: The Role of Queen Mothers in Ensuring Good Governance.' Nana Yaa Ansua III, Paramount Queen Mother of the Drobo Traditional Area and President of the Bono Queen Mothers Platform, emphasized the threat false information poses to peace and security, highlighting the need for traditional leaders to be well-informed.

Dr. Joseph Darmoe, Programmes Director of KAS Ghana, stated that the workshop aimed to enhance the capacity of Queen Mothers to manage and communicate accurate information effectively. He emphasized the importance of understanding their roles in maintaining peace and harmony within their communities.

Dr. James Kwabena Bomfeh Jnr, a lecturer at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), facilitated a session advising Queen Mothers to maintain non-partisan stances in their leadership roles. He stressed that while their office is political, it should remain non-partisan to uphold dignity and respect.

Ambassador-designate of Ghana to the Czech Republic, Mrs. Theresah Adjei-Mensah, who chaired the event, encouraged the Queen Mothers to strive for impactful leadership and community development, urging them to leave lasting legacies as custodians of traditions.
