Quality Education Focused on Potential, Not Certification, Says Education Director

Sunyani: Mr. Gabriel Antwi, the Bono Regional Director of Education, emphasized that quality education transcends mere certification, advocating for a stronger focus on nurturing the inherent potential of learners. Speaking at the inauguration of the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) Basic School in Sunyani, he urged educators to intensify their efforts in developing the capabilities of students to help them become responsible adults who can contribute positively to society.



According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Antwi highlighted the importance of teachers prioritizing the development of students’ talents, suggesting that by doing so, students could grow into valuable assets for society. He encouraged educators to continue molding learners responsibly.



Mr. Joseph Addae Akwaboah, the Bono Regional Minister, praised the university’s management for promoting quality education at all levels. He expressed optimism that the UENR Basic School would enable more students to access quality education and urged the school to adopt and maintain a strong educational culture.



Professor Elvis Asare-Bediako, Vice Chancellor of UENR, reiterated the institution’s commitment to becoming a world-class university, along with its affiliated basic schools. He noted that the basic school, established on September 12, 2017, began with 75 students and has consistently achieved a 100 percent pass rate in the Basic Education Certification Examination (BECE) over two batches.



Prof. Asare-Bediako appreciated the hard work of the school’s management, teachers, and non-teaching staff, urging them to remain innovative in fostering students’ potential. Mr. Anthony Asamoah, Headmaster of UENR Basic School, reported a growing enrollment of 1,200 students and called for stakeholders’ support in constructing a new classroom block for the Junior High School. He also commended the university authorities for their efforts in improving the school’s infrastructure.
