Prudential Bank Organises Prostate Cancer Screening for Residents of Aboabo

Aboabo: Prudential Bank Limited has organised a prostate cancer screening for more than one hundred men at Aboabo in the Asawase constituency of the Ashanti Region. The initiative was an integral component of the bank's annual corporate social responsibility program focused on health.

According to Ghana News Agency, September each year is designated to raise awareness about prostate cancer, aligning with the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goal 3, which advocates for Good Health and Well-being. Prostate cancer is a malignancy that manifests in the prostate, a small, walnut-shaped gland situated beneath the bladder and in front of the rectum in males. The theme for this year's awareness campaign is 'Bring Empathy Back: Closing the Empathy Gap.'

Mr. Bennet Frimpong, Head of Public Relations at Prudential Bank, told the GNA that the bank was steadfast in its commitment to fostering early detection, enhancing awareness, and promoting health and wellness within the communities it served. According to Mr. Frimpong, the bank aimed to make healthcare more accessible and convenient for men in Aboabo, given the area's substantial male population.

He stated that this year, the bank's awareness initiative targeted to screen over 500 men in Accra, Kumasi, and Tamale to facilitate early detection. He emphasized that early detection of prostate cancer could help prevent the progression to advanced stages, which frequently led to mortality. Through educational sessions, health screenings, and sponsorships, the bank endeavours to deepen the understanding of prostate cancer and encourage proactive health practices.

Prostate cancer represents a significant global health challenge, with over 1.4 million new cases diagnosed annually, as reported by the World Health Organization (WHO). In Ghana, a substantial number of cases are diagnosed at advanced stages, underscoring the urgent need for early detection and heightened awareness. By providing screenings and educational resources, the bank is resolutely dedicated to making a positive impact on the lives of men in Ghana and cultivating a culture of health and wellness, he added.

Participants expressed their gratitude to the organizers and urged them to persist in their commendable efforts toward community development.
