Kpone: The Kpone-Katamanso Constituency, located in the Greater Accra Region, is uniquely positioned to share its boundaries with several other constituencies, including Akuapem in the Eastern Region, Shai Osudoku, Ningo-Prampram, Tema East, Tema Central, Tema West, Ashaiman, and Adenta. This strategic location encompasses a wide area featuring communities such as Kpone on Sea, parts of Tema Community 25, Gbetsiley, Zenu, Santeo, Michel Camp, Bediako, Gulf City, Nanoman, Oyibi, Katamanso, Appollonia, Gonten, and Kpone-Bawaleshi, among others.According to Ghana News Agency, the 2021 population census reveals a population of 417,334 within the constituency, with a gender distribution of 208,040 males and 209,294 females. The area, rich in cultural diversity, is primarily Ga land but is home to various ethnic groups, including Akans, Ewes, and Northerners. Economically, Kpone-Katamanso is vibrant, featuring a bustling fishing sector and fertile lands supporting agricultural activities. The constituency also ho sts industries like the Sunon Asogli Power Plant and Sentuo Ceramics Ltd., along with estates such as Apollonia City Estate and Kpone Affordable Housing. Despite this industrial presence, unemployment remains an issue, with many youths resorting to operating 'Pragya' tricycles. The educational landscape includes public schools like Kpone Presby, Kpone Methodist, and Katamanso Basic schools, alongside private institutions, ensuring educational opportunities. The Kpone Community Day Secondary School, part of the E-school project, adds to the educational infrastructure. In terms of health, the area supports several facilities, including a polyclinic and a forthcoming district hospital under Nana Akuffo Addo's government. However, challenges such as poor road networks, sanitation issues, and inadequate water supply persist, influencing voter decisions in upcoming elections.Politically, the constituency has been a stronghold for the NDC, which has won all elections since the fourth republic began. The 2016 and 2020 elections saw significant NDC victories at both presidential and parliamentary levels. As future elections approach, the NDC aims to maintain its hold with incumbent MP Joseph Akuerteh Tetteh, while the NPP introduces William Ofosu Asante as a new candidate. Other candidates include Samuel Kofi Agbane of the PPP and Edmund Nii Amanquah Anang of the New Force, setting the stage for a competitive political contest.
