Prioritise education over funeral clothes – parents urged

Nene Kabu Okronipa Osakonor IV, the Wetsoyi (Divisional Chief) of the Kabiawer Yumu Clan of the Ada Traditional Area, has advised parents to prioritise the education of their children over spending on funeral clothes and other material possessions.Nene Osakonor gave the advice in an interview with the Ghana News Agency at the sidelines of the Asafotufiami festival's Royal Walk.He said the rapidly changing world required higher education to secure employment and be better positioned for job creation; therefore, education was the best legacy parents could leave for their children.He encouraged parents to settle their children's school fees promptly rather than prioritising funeral attire, saying that 'the future of our family, Ada, Ghana, Africa, and the world depends on prioritising education. Unfortunately, some parents neglect their children's educational needs while readily borrowing to buy funeral clothes. This mindset must change.'Nene Osakonor shared his personal experience, highlighting how educ ation had transformed his life despite his humble beginnings, stressing that every child must receive the needed education.He appealed to traditional leaders and stakeholders to refocus on education, ensuring a brighter future for the Ada State.The chief commended the people of Ada for their enthusiastic participation in the Asafotu Festival and thanked pacesetters for organising the Royal Walk for over two decades.He also advocated for peaceful coexistence and justice, especially as the general election approaches.Source: Ghana News Agency
