Accra: The Gbese community, led by Gbese Mantse, Nii Ayi-Bonte II, has honored the late Asafoiatse Christopher Brandford Nettey with the unveiling of a commemorative plaque in Swalaba. A principal street, extending from the old Bank of Ghana building through the General Post Office and passing by his residence to Palladium, has been named in his memory. This gesture acknowledges his significant contributions to the Ga State.
According to Ghana News Agency, the event saw attendance from various dignitaries, including Dr. Nyaho Nyaho Tamakloe, a board member of Hearts, who was accompanied by the club’s players, technical staff, and officials. Other prominent figures present were Vincent Odotei Sowah, a former Member of Parliament and Deputy Minister of Communications, Alhaji Akambi, and Mr. Harry Zakour, a former Chief Executive of Accra Hearts of Oak Club.
During the ceremony, the Gbese Mantse officially announced the appointment of Asafoatse Christopher Tetteh Nettey II as the fourth successor to Asafoiatse Christopher Brandford Nettey, confirming his position as Gbese Asafoatse Nukpa, or Youth Chief. The Head of Family for the Asafoiatse C.B. Nettey Descendants also transferred the administration rights of Asafoiatse C.B. Nettey’s estate to family attorneys. A Citation of Honour was read for the family secretary, Herbert Akai Nettey, who was awarded a Grand Medal.
Asafoiatse Christopher Brandford Nettey was a notable scholar, politician, entrepreneur, and sports enthusiast, recognized for founding the Accra Hearts of Oak Football Club in 1911.
