Fichser: The Eastern South Regional Police Command has apprehended eleven individuals at Fichser near Bunsu for alleged involvement in illegal mining activities, commonly referred to as 'Galamsey'.
According to Ghana News Agency, the arrests were made following a formal complaint and a subsequent operation conducted by the police. Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mr. Foster Owusu, in a press release, disclosed that the group comprised nine Ghanaians and two Burkinabes. The Ghanaians arrested are Kwaku Owusu, 42; Philip Tetteh, 52; Abdul Raham, 27; Philip Duvor, 40; Joseph Asare, 32; Charles Manu, 35; Joseph Araboga, 32; Daniel Bangah, 20; and Amoaho Isaac, 25. The Burkinabes include Jey Done, 40, and Adomah Bouba, 25.
The police also managed to recover an excavator from the site, which has been impounded as evidence. All suspects are currently in police custody and are being processed for legal proceedings.
The police statement further assured the public, particularly those within the Eastern South Regional Police Command's jurisdiction, of their commitment to fighting crime and maintaining law and order in the region.
