Central Tongu: In a bid to promote peaceful and issue-based campaigning, the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) and the Inter-Party Dialogue Committee in Central Tongu District of the Volta Region has organised a parliamentary candidates' dialogue. The event brought together aspirants from various political parties to share their initiatives and policies aimed at promoting the constituency's development.According to Ghana News Agency, the participating candidates included Mr. Godwin Casola Ayikpa of the New Patriotic Party (NPP); Madam Avudoahor Lawrencia Esenam of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG); Mr. Akafua-Hotor Courage of the National Democratic Party (NDP); and Mr. Dzramado Selorm Dramani, an independent candidate. During the dialogue, the candidates were given the opportunity to debate on their respective initiatives that would address the economy, education, and employment issues in Central Tongu.Mr. George A.K Amey, the NCCE Director, emphasised the significance of elections in shaping national decisions and empowering citizens. Mr. Amey also highlighted the NCCE's flagship research work, 'Matters of Concern to Ghanaian Voter,' which identified the top five concerns of Ghanaian voters, including education, employment, health, roads and infrastructure, and economic issues. He expressed his optimism that the parliamentary aspirants would help address these concerns when voted into power.The Chairperson Reverend Mrs. Victoria Joyce Amenuvor Ahiagbe, urged the candidates to avoid engaging in chieftaincy disputes and to promote peace throughout the election period. She also called on the candidates to accept the election results and to refrain from engaging youths in violent activities. The event was part of the NCCE's efforts to promote peaceful and issue-based campaigning in the run-up to the 2024 general elections.
