Oti residents urged to join fight against extremism, ‘ If you see something, say something’

Residents in the Oti Region have been urged to provide information on suspicious characters and activities to authorities to calm violent extremism.The 'If you see something, say something' campaign, launched by President Nana Akufo-Addo, aims to encourage citizens to play an active role in preventing potential threats.Nana Afriam-Darko, the Oti Regional of National Security Coordinator emphasized, 'vigilance is key to preventing extremism.He appealed to communities in Guan, Jasikan, Kadjebi, Nkwanta South, Nkwanta North, Krachi West and Krachi Nchumuru Districts of the Oti Region to report suspicious activities, ensuring a safe and secure environment for all.He told residents that the National Security Ministry had created a hotline -999- for citizens to report suspected extremists along with educational material to help people identify potential problems within their community.He explained that the campaign asked people to be alert and attentive to changes in their community that could indicate a threat.'We should all be watchdogs for our neighbourhoods, look out for characters whose identity, movement and presence raise questions'.Mrs Akosua Dankwah, the campaign coordinator for national security touring in the Oti Region, urged citizens to be more careful about strangers in their respective communities.In measures to ensure community safety, Mrs. Dankwah enlightened residents' benefits of community involvement, and added that community reporting suspicious activities help prevent crime and maintain peace in the area.Enhance National Security, community involvement is vital in ensuring national security and preventing potential threats.Building trust, and collaborating with security agencies promotes a sense of ownership among community members, she added.Source: Ghana News Agency
