Juaben: In a bid to enhance educational quality and moral values, the Oteng-Adusei Foundation has unveiled a new academic awards program aimed at supporting students in New Bomfa, located near Juaben in the Ashanti Region. This initiative is designed to recognize and reward students from the Bomfa Methodist Junior High School (JHS) who excel in the Basic Education Certificate Examination, facilitating their transition to Senior High Schools.According to Ghana News Agency, the award scheme includes several categories: the Yaa Amanfo Award for the three most needy but brilliant pupils, the Kwame Oteng-Adusei Award for the Overall Best pupil, the Kwaku Oteng-Adusei Award for the 2nd Best pupil, the Yaw Oteng-Adusei Award for the 3rd Best pupil, the Yaa Atia Award for the Best Female pupil, the Rebecca Oteng-Adusei Award for excellence in Mathematics, and the Kofi Ntiamoah Award for excellence in Science.At a brief ceremony marking the launch of the program, Mr. Samuel Oteng, Founder of the Oteng-Adusei Found ation, expressed the organization's commitment to supporting education and shaping lives through the dissemination of the gospel of Jesus Christ. He highlighted that the foundation plans to invest approximately GHS20,000.00 annually to aid students, with the goal of fostering a community of high achievers who can drive development in New Bomfa.Mr. Oteng emphasized the detrimental impact of financial constraints on the education of many talented students, calling it 'saddening and unfortunate.' He advocated for benevolent individuals and organizations to prioritize addressing these challenges to offer hope to marginalized groups in society.Mrs. Phyllis Boateng, the Juaben Municipal Director of Education, underscored the necessity for enhanced academic support in the community. She pointed out the lack of sufficient parental encouragement as a factor contributing to the current educational performance. Mrs. Boateng expressed optimism that the awards program would serve as an incentive for pupils, especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds, to excel academically. She also urged other individuals and groups to replicate such initiatives.Madam Sophia Kyei, Headmistress of Bomfa Methodist JHS, noted the financial difficulties faced by many pupils and mentioned that the school's staff often had to use their limited resources to support the students. She believes that the award scheme will significantly enhance student motivation and academic performance.
