Accra: The Accra Regional Police Command has apprehended a suspect linked to the alleged murder of Stephen King Amoah, an Immigration Officer, whose charred remains were discovered in a gutter near GBC Satellite, opposite Comet Estate, Accra, on July 9.
According to Ghana News Agency, Bright Aweh was taken into custody during a police operation as he was reportedly the last known individual to have interacted with Amoah on the night of July 3, 2025. A statement by Superintendent Juliana Obeng, Head of Public Affairs, Accra Region, revealed that Aweh admitted during questioning to having given Amoah GHS 500,000.00 in cash, purportedly to assist in settling debts and for safekeeping. However, Aweh's account of the money's origin was inconsistent.
The statement further detailed that the remains of Amoah were transported to the Police Hospital morgue. Officers from the Taifa Police Station, along with the complainant and six of Amoah's relatives, later visited the morgue. Despite severe burns, the family identified the body as Amoah's, who had left his Ashongman Estate home around 2000 hours on July 3, after receiving a WhatsApp message from Aweh that included images of cash and a request to meet.
Amoah did not return home, and attempts to contact him were futile as his phone was switched off. The Accra Regional Police Command denounced the incident and assured the public of an exhaustive investigation to uncover the circumstances of the murder and ensure that those responsible face justice.
The police have urged anyone with information pertinent to the case to contact the nearest police station or call 18555 or 192.
